Ned Dimitrov received two undergraduate degrees in 3 years, with a perfect GPA, from the University of Michigan; the first in Computer Sciences and the second in Mathematics. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he explored practical problems such as CT scan reconstruction, MRI scan reconstruction, and automated reasoning. For example, he worked with Xoran Technologies on creating a portable, fast CT scan machine.

Following his undergraduate work, Ned went on to study Theoretical Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. He has completed research work on automatic load balancing in distributed storage systems, revenue maximization in distributed computing, and bargaining in complex purchases. He is currently researching decision making in epidemics, with the goal of limiting disease spread.

Throughout his summers, Ned has applied his expertise to problems at companies such as Amazon.com and D. E. Shaw & Co. At Amazon.com, he worked on automatic detection of duplicates in Amazon.com's billion record database, applying techniques from natural language processing and information theory. At D. E. Shaw & Co. he used statistical methods and custom algorithm design to model risk in the U.S. stock market, with the goal of protecting investors from sudden unforeseen shifts.

He is expected to complete his dissertation in the Spring of 2008. His academic page can be found here.
